Ealing Times (p.13)

An art student has had her work displayed at an Underground station as part of a exhibition.
Ellie Harrison, 25, of Ealing, bought an annual Gold Travelcard in 2002 to travel between her home and the New Cross University campus and decided to record all her journeys.
She calculated the cumulative distance and marked stages of her journeys as if they corresponded to the equivalent distance to world-wide destinations.
These have now been turned into a collection of international postcards called Gold Card Adventures which is being displayed at Piccadilly Circus station as part of the Underground’s Platform for Art programme.
She said: “I was just aware of all the time I was wasting sat on the Tube so I thought I would record it. All the journeys are measured from Ealing so it’s as if Ealing is the centre of the universe in my project.”
Eighteen postcards, including Moscow, Montreal and Mexico, two of which are pictured left, are currently displayed at Piccadilly Circus station until March 21. The exhibition continues online.
