Dates: 26 June - 23 July 2006

Duration: 4 weeks

Data Collected: I recorded every activity I did 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. I wore a large display digital watch and carried a reporter’s notebook with me everywhere I went in order to note down the exact time I went from doing one activity to another. I defined 16 categories for which every possible thing I did could fit into. The data was transferred into an Excel spreadsheet each day. I also wrote a 28,000 word diary covering each day of the project.

Objectives: I was interested in studying how exactly I spent my time - how long I spent on my art practice, how much on domestic work, employment and other things. I wanted to quantify this and to observe how all the different activities that occupy my days merge into one another to form a continuous period of time.

Outcomes: I converted the data from the spreadsheet into a series of 28 colour-coded timelines, each showing a full 24 hour period. They each feature two bars, one showing the different activities performed and the other showing my location at the time. When completed they were published online.
