Dates: 1 January - 31 December 2003

Duration: 1 year

Data Collected: As part of the Daily Quantification Records project I recorded the total no. gaseous emissions I produced each day during 2003.

Objectives: I decided to record this data, because I was interested in attempting to quantify what this would amount to over the course of a year. However, my method was not very scientific in that I simply added one to the tally each time I farted irrespective of the amount of gas released. I was also interested in the notion of artistic ‘production’.

Outcomes: During the first six months of the data collecting, I created a bar chart on the wall of my studio. Each day I would add a new bar to the chart showing my output from the previous day, so that it slowly grew longer and longer reflecting the amount of gas I had produced. In 2007 I was asked to remake the work for an exhibition as a vinyl bar chart on glass. This time the whole year, 365 colour bars, were displayed, with a different colour bar for each day of the week.
