Data Collected: For over three-and-a-half years I worked as Undercover Artist in Residence at Broadway cinema in Nottingham. I collected data about each of the 207 films I watched whilst on shift including: the date, length of film, my rating and anecdotes from the shifts.
Objectives: I began recording this information not with the intention of making it into an artwork, but simply to keep a record of all the films I watched. In the past, I had always kept my cinema tickets as a record of the films I’d seen, but once I was working at the cinema I was no longer issued with tickets so created an Excel spreadsheet in which to record the information.
Outcomes: In 2007 I was asked by Broadway to transform all the data I’d collected into a screen-based artwork. I made an animated notebook, which displayed the data as though pages from an usher’s diary.
