Dates: 11 March 2001 - 11 March 2002

Duration: 1 year, 1 day

Data Collected: I photographed everything I ate from my 22nd birthday to my 23rd. Alongside the photographs I recorded the date, time, food, location, cost of the food and the name of the photographer in an Excel spreadsheet

Objectives: It first occurred to me to attempt to take a photo of everything I ate for a year a month before my birthday. The idea overwhelmed me at first, but the more I thought about it and the logistics of how it could work, the more I convinced myself it might be possible. My main objective was to challenge myself to a feat of endurance and to test whether I had the constitution to complete it. I was also intrigued to see, when the project was finished, just what a year’s worth of food amounted to.

Outcomes: A total of 1640 photographs were taken. Once a week for the duration of the project the new photographs and data were uploaded to the Eat 22 website. They were also compiled into a high-speed animated film.
