Dates: 18 July - 29 October 2005
Duration: 14 weeks, 6 days
Data Collected: This data collecting period coincided exactly with the duration of the exhibition
Day-to-Day Data. For each day of the exhibition I collected data about 20 aspects of my life onto Daily Data Log Sheets which included: time woken up, time went to sleep, time spent sleeping, no. steps walked, exercise carried out, geographical coordinates, outside and body temperature, times of bowel movements, no. sneezes and gaseous emissions, global and personal outlooks (on a scale of 1-10), list of foods eaten and people spoken to.
Objectives: I saw this as being a ‘greatest hits’ of previous data collecting activities. I therefore collected lots of the same data that I had done previously and some new things I thought it would be interesting to monitor. I knew from the start what this data would be used for, so I set out to collect a wide variety, which took different forms, some numerical, some subjective and textual lists.
Outcomes: Every morning for the duration of the exhibition I emailed the data collected the previous day to the gallery staff. They used it alongside a 16 page instruction manual to reconfigure and adjust a series of 20 objects which were installed as part of the display in the gallery. The display therefore changed each day in response to daily changes in my life.
