I'm down in Manchester with some brilliant artists recording for The Other Forecast project, which launches tomorrow at MediaCity in Salford Quays (see details below).
We have free rein of the greenscreen studio today and together we're making six alternative forecasts, which will be premiered tomorrow and then broadcast on the Big Screen at MediaCity in the week 4-10 November 2013 (at 13:30 and 17:30).
If you're nowhere near Manchester, fear not, we'll be releasing the films from Monday 4 November on the project's YouTube channel. So please subscribe to that and look out on Facebook and Twitter for some cool 'making of' pics and updates in the coming weeks!
The Other ForecastThe Other Forecast is a new project by artists Ellie Harrison and John O'Shea made in response to the MediaCityUK site at Salford Quays (home to the new BBC and ITV studios). Six artists - Richard DeDomenici, Ellie Harrison, Shona MacNaughton, Kim Noble, John O'Shea and Yuri Pattison - have each been invited to MediaCityUK to create their own take on the familiar 'weather forecast'. In front of a greenscreen, they will each explain to camera the interconnectedness of a variety of local and global systems - not just meteorological, but social, political or financial - presenting a different 'worldview' from their own personal perspective.
Each of the short films resulting from The Other Forecast will be premiered at a special launch event hosted by Ellie Harrison and John O'Shea at the University of Salford's Digital Performance Lab on Saturday 26th October at 4pm. They will then be broadcast on the Big Screen at MediaCityUK in the week 4-10 November 2013 (at 13:30 and 17:30), and released to a global audience on the project's YouTube channel. Please follow the project on Twitter for all the updates.
